We all have that one room we can’t seem to figure out.

You’ve brought things in, moved them around, but something isn’t working. Maybe you aren’t sure what to try next. You scroll, seeing the endless possibilities on Pinterest and Instagram, and analysis paralysis sets in.

Take it from me—someone who’s currently in the midst of moving our entire life to a new home—making a room feel inviting and lived in, personal and pulled together can be challenging.

The urge to get it all done is strong, even when you want nothing more than to fill your home with meaningful items that will last.

But what if you committed to getting it done? What if you had the inspiration, support, and community to give you feedback and a timeline that was reasonable, not rushed?

Introducing Coming Home

This is our take on the one room challenge.

If your bedroom is so large you can’t seem to fill it or the powder room could use a little personality, this is for you. Even if you just want to style your bookshelf or put the finishing touches on the laundry room, you’ll gain so much more than what you put into a single space.

It’s sort of like Marie Kondo meets Iris Apfel.

It’s about clearing the clutter and filing it in a way that feels like your own—blending meaningful items alongside modern seating. A space that begs to be inhabited, rather than stared at.

The piece you pulled in because it was on sale. Yeah, we’re going to let that one go. The color you’d love to drench the walls in. We’re cheering you on. The piece you love from another room that would be perfect in this space. Shop your home!

In this program you’re going to develop your eye and tighten up your intuitive senses so that when you spot what YOU love you’ll know it right away.

Because you know as well as I do, as beautiful as those trends are, they don’t feel personal to most of us. And what big box stores have to offer at one time—these aren’t the things that we want to live with for years to come.

Your Host, Kim Wensel

I’ve spent my career curating spaces, brands, and experiences that matter. More recently, through our storefront, Range, I traveled across countries, seeing and experiencing what feels like home.

Spoiler alert: that rarely looks like 50 shades of beige that we see in feeds and coffee table books (though if you’re into that, do you).

If you’ve followed along with my journey, you’ll know that in June we packed up our home in Leesburg, Virginia and spent the summer shacking up with various relatives. In August we’ll move into our next home in Pittsburgh, a new build where I’m faced with the reality of bringing character to a blank space. Oh, yeah, and doing this while enrolling my kids in a new school where they don’t know a single soul.

Exciting, terrifying…pretty much all the things.

I understand as much as you do the desire to have my house pulled together before the holidays and when the chill of winter rolls in. Because, let’s be honest: nothing makes winter feel longer than being trapped inside staring at the list of projects you need to get done.

So join me in Coming Home and I’ll share my progress right alongside yours. Plus we get to hang out for 7 weeks and what’s cooler than that?

This program is for you if you appreciate feedback and a second eye on your selections, love the idea of pulling a space together without dropping $10-20k, and are excited to finally get it done.

Program Schedule

Month One: Defining Your Space

The most important factor is making a room feel pulled together is not how beautiful it is, but how well it supports your lifestyle. We’ll identify how you want to use your space and begin to pull in inspiration through my focused mood board process.

  • Tuesday, August 27, 2024: Kickoff Call

Month Two: Finding Your Centerpiece

At weddings, centerpieces play a very specific role, aside from being beautiful. They set the tone and pull together the color scheme, style, and feel of the event. This month we’re off to find what your room centerpiece will be so that we can design around it.

  • Tuesday, September 10, 2024: Group Call

Month Three: Styling your Space

Once the main ingredients are in place, we’ll move on to styling (my favorite part!). I’ll share how to shop your own home and our guest expert will share vintage sourcing tips. For those available and interested (but also completely optional), we’ll meet up at the Lucketts Fall Market to source IRL.

  • Tuesday, October 1, 2024: Group Call
  • Saturday, October 12, 2024: (optional) Lucketts Fall Market Sourcing Meet Up*
  • Thursday, October 17, 2024: Room Reveals

*Lucketts Market entrance fees are not included in program registration. You are responsible for purchasing on your own.

FAQ

What if I can’t attend the live calls?

While we highly encourage you to try to make the live calls, recordings will be shared with the group shortly after each call.

I’m not sure there’s one room I can focus on. Will I still get something out of the program?

Even if you’ve updated every room in your home, I think there are always small tweaks possible that bring a room more in line with how you’re living today. The reason we focus on one room in particular is so that you can apply what you’re learning, get real time feedback from the community, and learn through trial and error. If you simply want to listen in and apply later, that’s your call.

What is the one room challenge?

The mission of the One Room Challenge is to celebrate of creativity, inspiration, and original ideas. Since 2011, people across the globe have been transforming a single room and sharing their progress and results with each other through a digital community. The movement happens twice a year—once in the fall and once in the spring. Get more information here.

Will I get personal feedback on my choices?

Yes, I’ll be in the group Voxer channel weekly providing prompts and feedback on your questions and selections. But your peers will be too! Often we know what we want, but having encouragement from others is what allows us to follow through with a decision. That’s the best part of a group program—you’re never alone.

I don’t live in Virginia, so I won’t be able to make it to Lucketts Fall Market. Will I miss out on a lot?

I don’t live in Virginia anymore either, so that’s okay! This is an add-on to the program and not mandatory at all! If you want to travel in, I highly recommend it if you can swing it, since I often wait for these markets to purchase items for my own home. However, if it’s not possible it’s totally fine! You won’t miss out on any aspect of the program if you can’t meet us in person.

What should my room budget be to make this program worth it?

If you’re not familiar with the one room challenge, you should definitely check it out. The whole point of this program is to create an atmosphere that looks and feels great to YOU. If that looks like splurging on the sofa you’ve been eyeing for years, let’s make that happen. If you prefer to shop your home and add just a few new finishing touches, I’m totally behind that too! Budget is such a highly personal decision, but I can assure you it doesn’t have to be large to have a large impact.

Know someone who would benefit from this program?

Refer them and receive $100. Yes, seriously! Tell them to add your name to the “Who Referred You” box on the registration page and we’ll follow up with you to coordinate your referral reward. Win-win!
